The Asbury Park Women’s Convention continues to grow. In two days, the event sold out of its original venue and has been relocated to the historic Paramount Theatre. Now the organizers are excited to announce the various celebrities, politicians, and special guests that will be a part of the day.

ASBURY PARK, New Jersey— The Asbury Park Women’s Convention is set to be both educational and entertaining.  The nonpartisan event aims to look at issues that affect women across party lines in an engaging and realistic manner. The APWC will address issues such as: Equal Pay, Women’s Healthcare, and Sexual Violence.  The event boasts a full and entertaining day, with food available from local women-owned businesses.

The state-wide buzz for the APWC has been taken to a new level as panel participants, comedians, and speakers are now being announced. Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, Senator Sandra Cunningham, Former Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, and Assemblywoman Joann Downey are just a few of the political power women who will be making appearances. A special award will be given to superstar Freeholder Ashley Bennett, who recently appeared on the cover of Time Magazine. Rounding up some of the entertainment will be renowned transgender comedian Julia Scotti, a favorite from America’s Got Talent, as well as local musicians. The organizers boast that “a very special surprise guest” will also make an appearance.

Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn states, “I am absolutely humbled by the diverse turn out of exceptional women who will be taking time to share their stories with us.”

Organizer and comedian Jess Alaimo says, “I think the fact that we originally sold out in two days is indicative of where we’re at as a society.  Women are ready to stand up for equality and justice. This event will give us the confidence and guidance necessary to move forward fearlessly in these endeavors.”

Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton adds, “There are a myriad of issues that affect us and it is time we determine our destinies. That is the impetus behind the Asbury Park Women’s Conference.  I invite you to join us. And while we are discussing the heavy issues; we are also going to make sure we have FUN.”

The APWC will also co-host a screening of “Zero Weeks” at 6pm at The Asbury Hotel. The movie addresses the issue of Paid Leave. The event is free but registration is limited. Seats can be reserved through the Asbury Park Women’s Convention website.

The event’s main sponsors is NJ Natural Gas. Other sponsors include the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ. The APWC will take place at The Paramount Theatre on February 24, 2018 from 9AM-4PM. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. Students and military (with I.D.) are not charged admission.
